It’s our 6 month anniversary of being on the road! Time certainly does fly…We’ve spent a half a year tromping around South America, yet we still feel that we’ve just barely scratched the surface of this amazing continent. We could spend years here, but we’re heading off to explore another part of the world next week.
We still have some catching up to do on country-specific ’round-ups’, but in the meantime, here’s a quick breakdown of our travel stats from the first 6 months:
Average cost per person, per day (not including Antarctica) – $43
Continents – 2 – South America and Antarctica
Countries visited – 6 – Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia and Ecuador
Towns or cities visited – 53
Beds slept in – 56
Bus rides – 101
Taxi or combis – 34
Boats – 25
Planes – 6
Swiss Army knives lost – 3
Empanadas consumed – we should have kept track…the number is probably in the high hundreds.
Regrets – 0
Our next leg includes Turkey, Israel, Jordan, India and Nepal; if you’ve been to any of those places don’t be shy, leave us some tips in the comments!
Kind of amazing you spent 6 months there and didn’t even get to Brazil!
I know right? South America is so massive…we plan to do a separate trip down to Brasil because we want to be there during Carnival…which was impossible this year as it overlapped with Antarctica.
Happy 6 month travel anniversary Merrilings! We just had our 5 month- crazy how sometimes it feel like it’s been five years, other times five days! Can’t wait to hear about your next leg! Miss you guys!!
That is exactly how it feels…so fast, and so long all at the same time! We totally miss travelling with you guys, and we’re a *little* jealous that you are heading into a few things we are super bummed to not have been able to do…the Galapagos and Easter Island, but we’ll get there someday. Have a great Inca Trail hike and who knows, maybe we’ll be able to meet up somewhere else in the world 🙂
Hi Ash and Justin!!! So excited to read the total numbers of everything, and of course, not surprised at the Zero regrets. I have been to India…while not as widely traveled as you are, of the perhaps eight countries I have visited, India was the most sensual and wonderful experience of them all…for me, that is. It was ’92, so much has changed. I love you and miss you and am reading your stories. xoxo
Hi Aunt Janelle 🙂 We are really excited to go to India, even though we are going in probably the hottest possible time of year…we might melt, but at least it will be in an amazing place!
I chuckled over these lists. You are terrific! Sometimes it may take this kind of analysis to review our experiences. Regrets=0, that’s what counts, the rest is life as it is. I wish you so much luck on your journey.
Thanks! I was a teacher before this trip, and lists are one habit I made from that time that I’ve kept, though Justin teases me often for it…
